Hello! I am a senior public relations major in Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. I have a pronounced interest in communications, and my experiences at three public relations agencies, as well as in corporate communications and marketing have allowed me to gain a wide perspective about promoting ideas and developing materials for an array of unique clients.
Last summer I worked as a public relations intern at a small public relations and marketing firm called Tipping Point Communications. Throughout the course of the internship, I was tasked with creating public relations collateral and implementing media outreach for numerous clients. The client that I coordinated with the most was a sustainable chemical manufacturing company called SiGNa Chemistry. Throughout attending site visits, creating a fact sheet with key company information and creating media briefs and summaries for key interviews with Greenbiz and Forbes, I about learned the importance of intense research and planning for a client within such a niche industry such as sustainable energy.
I also interned at a public relations, marketing and advertising agency called Dixon Schwabl. There, I worked with a team of seven other interns to develop media outreach initiatives and plan a full-fledged public relations campaign for our client, Rochester’s Young Women’s College Prep charter school. A challenging yet rewarding experience for me was when I helped the client to gain key media coverage at local news stations through the development of press releases, media alerts and phone calls. Throughout numerous client and team strategy meetings, I discovered the challenges and opportunities of working with both a team and client group composed of varying personalities and ideas.
Additionally, I built upon my marketing and analytics skills through a digital media internship at MFS Investment Management. Throughout the internship, I focused on developing a social media content calendar through Microsoft Excel, conducted analytics of employee LinkedIn usage and account visits through the use of the social listening platform Hearsay Social and developed an employee intranet platform with information and guides on ways to leverage social media for client relationships.
Along with taking classes, I have been interning at the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems Innovations since November 2016. Throughout the past six months, I have utilized key skill sets that I learned throughout various Newhouse courses such as video editing, graphic design, social media marketing and website development. However, the most important lesson that I have learned so far has been mastering the ability to manage the task of taking two senior-level classes while also being responsible for an internship that requires my full cooperation daily.
I am also very passionate about the Spanish language, and am interested in pursuing a career in which I can utilize my Spanish speaking and writing skills in a communications setting. My organizational skills, flexibility and drive for success make me an excellent, results-driven and proactive worker.
